LCR assembles team for £500m Stafford station regen

Developer London and Continental Railways has appointed a team to rework the £500m regeneration project at Stafford Station.

Architects Hawkins\Brown, engineering firm WSP and planning and development advisers at CBRE will create a new masterplan the gateway city development.

The development, planned on the back of High Speed 2, was previously expected to provide around 650 flats, 150 houses and a hotel on 70 acres of land.

It comprises three sites: Gateway North, Gateway Central and Gateway South, also known as the Station Plaza. LCR said new plans will comprise a business district, homes, retail and leisure and a hotel, with public realm and a new pedestrian access to the station.

Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and Network Rail formally appointed LCR as development partner in March.

It is part of LCR’s partnership with Network Rail to redevelop land around UK stations.

The initiative has 16 active sites with the potential for £2bn in development.
