The London Development Agency (LDA) has selected a developer to finalise detailed plans for the £1bn regeneration of Silvertown Dock, part of Londons historic Royal Docks.
The LDA has now entered into exclusive negotiations with Silvertown Quays, a consortium including KUD International, a subsidiary of the Japanese urban specialist giant Kajima, London & Southern, led by former English Partnerships chief executive David Taylor, and Chris Brown’s Igloo Regeneration Fund.
A shortlist of five developers submitted detailed proposals in April, following the launch of an international competition in December of last year..
Once the largest port in the world, Royal Docks area is the largest single regeneration area in London. The LDA wants to create “a new, thriving community, underpinned by world-class commercial and leisure facilities”. Plans will include 3,000 homes – with a proportion allocated to key workers such as nurses and teachers – and an aquarium.
Michael Ward, chief executive of the LDA, said: “The competition winner has had to produce a scheme that can truly revitalise this crucial part of East London, but there is still detailed work to be done to finalise the proposals, and as soon as possible we will be issuing details.”
