Tesco’s chief executive Sir Terry Leahy was presented with Europe’s top retail personality award by Estates Gazette editor Peter Bill on Wednesday at the EG Retail Awards at MAPIC in Cannes.
Leahy was chosen for his contribution to retail across Europe in 2006.
The 10 award-winners, announced at a dinner at the Carlton, included architect Benoy for the Sun Hung Kai retail development at Orchard Turn, Singapore.
Cushman & Wakefield won the best European retail property adviser award, while Multi Developments developer of Belfast’s Victoria Square won best European retail property company.
Other UK winners included Chapman Taylor, which won the retail regeneration award for its work extending Bristol city centre for the Bristol Alliance, and FaulknerBrowns Architects, whose Snowdonia Gateway in Wales scooped the award for retail developments of under 200,000 sq ft.
