Leeds Council has appointed Asda St James for the £20m redevelopment of the Seacroft District Centre.
The current centre will be replaced by a 6,039 sq m (65,000 sq ft) supermarket, 6,503 sq m (70,000 sq ft) of shops, a market hall, restaurants, a post office and 600 parking spaces.
Planning permission is in place and Asda St James expects to start the 15-month construction programme early next year.
Asda St James director Roland Stross said: “We are in serious discussion with a shortlist of supermarket operators to anchor the scheme and we are absolutely confident that the new shopping centre will prove a valuable resource to the substantial catchment around the North Leeds Ring Road.
Asda St James is a joint venture between Asda Property Holdings and Ilkley-based St James Securities.
