Leeds council has approved a revised planning statement for the Sovereign Street development site in the city centre and reached heads of terms with developer Sovereign Leeds and occupier KPMG.
The approval means that the long-awaited development of the site, which sits close to Leeds’ main railway station, looks likely to go ahead. Previous plans for the land, including two glass “kissing towers” failed to come to fruition.
Sovereign Leeds – which is led by developers Mark Hancock and Mike Heydecke – will purchase part of the site for the development of a new 60,000 sq ft office building which will be leased by KPMG.
The Sovereign Street site contains two additional plots of land which are expected to come to market in time.
