Leeds property tycoon arrested in fraud raid

Leeds developer Simon Morris has been arrested as part of a series of raids by police investigating fraud and money laundering allegations.

The former Leeds United director was one of eight people arrested this morning across West Yorkshire and the West Midlands.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “West Yorkshire Police have today arrested six people in West Yorkshire and two in the West Midlands in connection with an ongoing money laundering and conspiracy to defraud investigation.

“Three men from Leeds, three men from Bradford, and a man and a woman from Wolverhampton are currently in police custody being interviewed by detectives.

“We will not identify any person who has been arrested until such time as they may be charged.”

Administrators Begbies Traynor said SRM Holdings and its subsidiaries had collapsed “because of the downturn in the property market, particularly within the residential new-build market in Leeds“.
