Leeds Sporting said plans for a 14,000-seat indoor sports arena next to Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium was still on track. Its comments came after Chris Akers, chief executive of Leeds Sporting, the holding company for the football club, resigned.
Leeds Sporting denied Akers’ departure was forced by other directors frustrated by his inability to push through the planned development of a £40m indoor sports arena. It insisted the departure was amicable. It put the departure down to his reluctance to move from London to Leeds but said Akers would be retained as a consultant on strategic matters.
