Plans to build a massive steel and glass structure on the site of thehistoric Crystal Palace in south London are to be challenged in the HighCourt. The scheme would include 18 cinemas and parking for 850 cars onthe roof.
Bromley Council has granted planning permission to London RegionalDevelopments for the building which will be nearly 1,000 ft long. Thecouncil is to receive £6m for a lease on 4.8ha (12 acres) of theexisting park on the site.
The Crystal Palace Community Association is seeking judicial reviewof the scheme. It claims the building is contrary to the council’splanning policies and to the Environment Department’s guidance on how touse public open space.
