A new specialist food business park in Leicester has been granted funding from the European Regional Development Fund to help kick-start development.
Leicester Food Park has received £3.4m of ERDF funding and will comprise nearly 20,000 sq ft of bespoke food grade units when it is completed in November this year.
The £5.5m scheme is being delivered in a partnership between Leicester city council and Willmott Dixon. It will include nine specialist units ranging in size from 1,000 to 5,000 sq ft to encourage start-up and smaller grow-on businesses in the food and drink manufacturing industry.
The food park could house up to 35 new businesses.
The local authority has identified the food and drink sector as a key area for growth in the city.
