Lend Lease agree terms for regeneration of Stockport town centre

Lend Lease has signed a development agreement with Stockport council for the 1m sq ft Bridgefield retail-led scheme.

The Australian property giant said the agreement had followed a board decision to commit capital expenditure and resources to the scheme.

The mixed-use scheme is the centrepiece of Stockport’s ‘Future Stockport’ initiative and includes 1,000 homes.

The 20-acre site on which it will be located includes the town’s existing Debenhams and Sainsburys stores.

Sir Terry Farrell and Building Design Partnership were part of the Lend Lease consortium, which was awarded preferred developer status in March of last year.

Alastair Smart, head of new business for Lend Lease, said: “Stockport fits with our strategy of securing large mixed-use developments in major towns offering significant growth potential.”

“It enables us to utilise the unrivalled integrated offering of Lend Lease, Bovis Lend Lease and renowned home builder Crosby Lend Lease to deliver this exciting project.”

Sue Derbyshire, executive member for regeneration, Stockport council, added: “This is a major milestone for the Bridgefield project and a boost for our Future Stockport masterplan.

“With this seal of approval from the Lend Lease Board we can now progress towards a full scale public consultation on the proposals for the town centre extension and the submission of a planning application.”

Stockport council is being advised by Cushman & Wakefield and Berwin Leighton Paisner.
