Lend Lease, First Base and East Thames in partnership with the Architecture Foundation today launched a search for around 40 architectural practices to work up designs for the London 2012 Olympics Village.
The Lend Lease-led consortium was selected by London & Continental Railways and the Olympic Delivery Authority as preferred development partner for zones 2-7 of the £5bn
The Architecture Foundation will oversee the appointment of the panel, which is expected to comprise around 40 practices.
This group will then compete for commissions to design individual components of the £2bn residential district which will include around 4,200 houses and related accommodation.
Commissions will vary from individual buildings and pavilions to much larger projects.
Lend Lease Europe chairman Nigel Hugill said: “Our aim is to create an exemplar development which is recognised worldwide as demonstrating best practice in urban design and sustainability, and which delivers a new legacy district after 2012.
“To achieve this, we are seeking to engage the world’s most talented architects from both established and emerging practices. This truly is an open call.”
Practices can obtain further information – and download the project brief – at www.villagearchitectspanel.com and have until 28 June to respond. The panel will be announced at the end of July.
