Lendlease shuts £1bn Google HQ site over coronavirus

Lendlease has stopped construction works on Google’s new headquarters in King’s Cross after a site worker tested positive for coronavirus.

Several hundred people who work on the project have been told not to return to site for two days while Lendlease deep-cleans the site.

The developer is building a new campus for the tech giant, which will accommodate 4,500 staff, include a gym, swimming pool, covered multi-use games area, events centre and “trim track” on the roof.

A spokesperson for Lendlease said: “A trade contractor who had access to the site office has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-isolation.

“We are in contact with the health authorities and, as a precautionary measure, the site has been closed for two days to allow a deep-clean of the facilities to take place.”

Google occupies several buildings across London, including space at Argent’s King’s Cross development within Six Pancras Square.

In January it also signed to take around 140,000 sq ft in Euston Tower, at British Land’s Regent’s Place campus.
