A council has awarded a £190m contract to a housing developer who has refused to cover the £3m costs of removing Grenfell-style cladding from towers in the city.
Manchester city council, which is controlled by Labour, has chosen Lendlease to manage the £330m repair, refurbishment and partial restoration of the grade I listed town hall.
The Australian company, which reported profits after tax of £443m last year, will be paid £190m to appoint and manage contractors.
