Plans have been resubmitted for a tower at 22 Bishopsgate, EC2, which will drop three storeys from the previous design, and have no tiered upper levels.
AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets confirmed in October that it intended to proceed with the development on behalf of a consortium of international investors.
Plans were then submitted in November by Planning Agency DP9 and drawn up by PLP Architecture, on behalf of 22 Bishopsgate Limited, 22 Bishopsgate Partnership and 22 Bishopsgate (DEVCO).
The original proposal, a 63-storey tower dubbed the Pinnacle, was granted planning in 2007. Construction stalled in 2012.
After the present owners took over the scheme in 2015, permission was granted for a new 62-storey scheme a year later.
The latest design changes – which come under a full planning application – alter the top of the building, and reduce its height by 65 ft.
According to the design and access statement, the new considerations for the design included the different economic climate, changing workplace practices and “a desire to move away from an iconic approach to architecture and construction towards a quieter, calmer, more rational design”.
A spokesman at AXA IM – Real Assets said: “The reduction in height allows a cleaner, more elegant resolution to the top of the building in the context of air traffic control constraints, whilse maintaining the same gross area as the consented design.
“The amended plans will not affect the project’s delivery timetable and, with Multiplex now contracted and 22 Bishopsgate under construction, the targeted completion date of autumn 2019 remains the same.”
