Levete on gender balance

Amanda Levete, described as the world’s leading female architect, expresses surprise that female architects continue to be described by their gender.

Architecture is changing, she says. She would like it to change more quickly, if only because a good gender balance means offices are better places to work. The architecture profession is 78% male.

Her London office is evenly split between the genders, and also between UK nationals and other Europeans. Architecture in the UK has flourished since the country joined the EU, she says.
