Lewis to chair London Legacy planning group

Property veteran Philip Lewis has been appointed chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation’s planning decisions committee.

Lewis, chief executive of the property division of the Kirsh Group and former UK head of Hines and Conrad Ritblat, will oversee planning decisions for the Legacy Corporation area, including the Olympic Park.

The Legacy Corporation became the local planning authority for the park and adjoining areas in Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Hackney and Newham on 1 October.

Lewis, a board member of the Legacy Corporation for the past three years, said: “The committee will help to drive forward regeneration plans for the area, ensuring that high-quality design and sustainable development bring lasting benefits to east London.”

The LLDC, chaired by London mayor Boris Johnson, is recruiting a new chief executive after Andrew Altman left in the summer. Acting chief executive Dennis Hone – the former head of the Olympic Delivery Authority – is among those to have applied. Interviews were taking place as Estates Gazette went to press on Thursday.

A decision could be made as early as December.
