L&G’s Salford hotel and office scheme will face a public inquiry over the closure of a riverside footpath.
The Ralli Quays development will see government office buildings demolished to make way for an office complex and a 16-storey, 260-bedroom hotel. It was approved in January.
However, it turns out that the Department for Transport never rubber-stamped the application to permanently shut the path along the River Irwell.
The DfT announced on Thursday that “in light of the outstanding objections” the transport secretary would hold a public inquiry into the matter.
No date has yet been set for the inquiry, which should last one or two days.
