L&G poaches Barratt land manager

Legal-General-sign-150x120.jpegLegal & General Property has appointed Mike Powell as residential transactions manager.

Powell was previously land manager at Barratt Homes, where he was responsible for acquiring development sites in London and the surrounding counties. Prior to that worked as a land buyer for Persimmon Homes.

Supporting LGP’s head of residential, James Lidgate, Powell will source land development opportunities across the UK.

Acting as investment manager to Legal & General Capital, LGP is looking to provide an “institutional class” of purpose-built rental accommodation.

To date it has acquired two sites, a 300-400 home scheme in Walthamstow, E17, and a 90-unit block in Salford, Greater Manchester.

L&G has earmarked a potential £1bn for its build-to-rent portfolio, which it intends to develop and manage in house.
