Almost two-thirds of bed-and-breakfast owners in Scotland are considering closing their doors in response to “catastrophic” restrictions on short-term lets.
The Scottish Bed and Breakfast Association has made an eleventh-hour appeal to first minister Humza Yousaf, urging him to pause the plans to introduce licences.
The rule change means that anyone providing a room or home for rent has to apply to their local council for permission.
The association said 61% of B&Bs and small holiday let businesses are thinking about shutting their doors at the end of next month, as a result of the cost and administrative burden of the licences.
