Lidl increases minimum wage

Supermarket chain Lidl is increasing the wages of more than 9,000 employees, introducing a minimum London wage of £9.35 an hour and a minimum wage outside London of £8.20 an hour from the beginning of next month.

The increase means the supermarket’s minimum wage is likely to match the level due to be announced by the Living Wage Foundation in November. If the foundation sets a higher level, Lidl has said it will increase its minimum wages further.

The retailer has said prices will not rise as a result of its move.
