Lidl has submitted plans for a 580,000 sq ft regional distribution centre in Leeds.
The discount grocer plans to develop a 35-acre site in Gildersome, after lodging plans with Leeds City Council.
Richard Taylor, Lidl GB’s chief development officer, said: “Our ambitious warehouse plans demonstrate our commitment to investing not only in our distribution network but the country as a whole. An RDC in Leeds would be a great addition to the North, while we continue to keep a lookout for new sites in the South.”
Over the last five years Lidl has opened four RDCs in the UK in Motherwell, Peterborough, Doncaster and a second site in Belvedere, amounting to 2.6m sq ft and an investment of £700m.
It will shortly open its Luton RDC – the largest in its entire portfolio – which will serve over 150 stores in London and the Home Counties.
Taylor added: “We need more space and people to help us meet our growth targets. We’ve built an impressive store portfolio across the country and our vision to have over 1,100 stores in Great Britain remains unchanged.”
