Lift-off for £3bn Apple campus

Apple has been given the green light for a $5bn (£3bn) spaceship-style campus in northern California.

The 2.8m sq ft Foster + Partners-designed Apple Campus 2 will house 14,000 workers. Cupertino city council unanimously approved the plans for the new HQ near San Jose.

Demolition of the existing buildings on the site is expected to begin at?the end of 2013 with Apple targeting a move into the new facility in 2016.

The campus, which was the brainchild of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011, includes 700,000 sq ft?of rooftop solar panels.
