Empiric Student Property predicts a “limited” Brexit impact on the UK student housing sector.
The company said: “We are not in a position to determine exactly what the consequences will be for the higher education sector in the UK; however, we believe that the impact on the operations of the group will be limited.”
The company noted that EU students represent only 6% of all full-time students in the UK, so the higher education system was not dependent on this portion of the market.
It also said that the predicted interest rate fall would benefit the sector.
The company’s property portfolio comprises 7,265 beds, either operating or under development, across 75 assets.
