Linden gets approval for Wiltshire resi-scheme

Linden Homes Western has received planning approval for the redevelopment of a former cattle market site in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The specialist regional house builder, who focuses on brownfield developments, will redevelop the 9.4-acre town centre site into a scheme of 256 homes with an end value of over £30m over the next four years.

Pending North Wiltshire District Council approval of the legal agreement, construction could begin in August 2006 for 145, one and two bedroom apartments, 95, two, three and four bedroom homes and 16 apartments over garages.

Toby Ballard, managing director for Linden Homes Western, said: “Having utilised the expertise of London-based architects John Thompson & Partners, we will be building homes and apartments in a variety of sizes and styles with signature architecture, landscaping, high internal specifications and our usual high standard of finish.

The development will include 30% affordable housing and the Section 106 Agreement includes contributions for public art, education, open space and highways including £500,000 towards a future road link across the railway.

Simon Gait, land director for Linden Homes Western, said: “The intention is to create a highly accessible residential neighbourhood that offers new sustainable and healthy ways of living in a town centre environment and we are very excited by the prospect of creating such a place.

“All of the homes are designed to achieve a rating of ‘EcoExcellent’ and we are one of very few housebuilders pioneering this type of development.”

Linden Group operates in the South East, Southern, Chiltern and Western regions of the UK and currently has around forty active schemes.
