Listed Brum hospital gets BTR and student makeover

McLaren Property and Aventicum Real Estate have got the go ahead to redevelop the listed Queen’s Hospital buildings in Birmingham into a 31-storey student housing and build-to-rent scheme.

The development will deliver 759 student beds and 189 BTR homes at Queen’s Hospital Close. The site is to the south-west of the city centre and  close to Five Ways railway station.

At the heart of the scheme, the west listed building will be refurbished to house commercial and amenity facilities for students and the wider community. Surrounding the building will be new public pathways creating a civic and neighbourhood space, with associated public realm.

The east listed building will be refurbished to contain 52 studio flats, while the new PBSA buildings will replace the current provision, which is outdated and no longer meets the demands of today’s student market.

Set back from the student accommodation and located alongside the canal will be the new seven and 10-storey BTR apartment blocks.

The scheme is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating.
