Little fall-out for breweries and jobs expected with Bass acquisition of Carlsberg-Tetley

Bass hopes to retain all Carlsberg-Tetley’s breweries, except a small plant in Warrington, Cheshire, if its proposed acquisition of Carlsberg-Tetley goes ahead. It is also expects to retain all Carlsberg-Tetley’s brands and has indicated that the impact on employment will be slight.

Its plans, however, have been put on ice while the Office of Fair Trading reviews the deal. If the deal is approved, it will enlarge Bass’s share of the UK brewing market from 23% to 35-38% and give it eight of the 15 best selling beer brands.
