Littlewoods tipped to take Liverpool head office

Littlewoods is considering taking 50,000 sq ft (4,645 sq m) of office space above its flagship Liverpool store for a new head office.

The retail giant, acquired by the Barclay brothers in 2002, has since sold its 100 Old Hall Street headquarters to Bruntwood for £25m.

It is due to vacate the 340,000 sq ft (31,600 sq m) office tower and plans to create 190,000 sq ft (17,651 sq m) of new offices in Speke, south Liverpool, for its home shopping division.

However, Littlewoods’ stores and administration departments have yet to find a new home. Representatives of the Barclay brothers – who this week struck a £260m deal to buy Hollinger, owner of the Telegraph titles – are believed to be eyeing the former retail space above the Spinney House store on Church Street.

Around 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) of 100 Old Hall Street is let to other companies. DTZ Debenham Tie Leung, which is acting for Littlewoods, declined to comment.
