Liverpool and Manchester launch joint EZ bid

The Liverpool and Manchester Local Enterprise Partnerships have jointly proposed that developer Langtree’s Daresbury campus in Halton be an Enterprise Zone.

In the first case of a joint-LEP bid, Liverpool and Manchester have suggested that the Daresbury campus, near Widnes and Runcorn, becomes an enterprise zone for the scientific and hi-tech industries.

St Helens-based Langtree has submitted plans for a 1m sq ft extension to the existing campus. It will provide office and laboratory space.

John Downes, managing director of Langtree, said: “Enterprise Zone status, and the extra financial and commercial strength it affords through business rates reinvestment, would allow us to deliver the critical infrastructure of the campus and accelerate our growth strategy significantly.”

Mike Blackburn, chairman of Greater Manchester LEP said, “We are keen to play a full and active role in supporting the Daresbury SIC joint venture partners in driving the SCI-TECH Enterprise Zone forwards.”
