Liverpool wants to build its own opera house on the banks of the River Mersey, reports reveal.
The news comes as local officials hold talks with the government about plans to devolve powers to the region. Liverpool’s mayor, Joe Anderson, is quoted as saying he wants an iconic building on the waterfront.
Phil Davies, who chairs the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said talks with the government were ongoing but that no decisions had been taken on what would be included in a deal on devolution.
