Liverpool FC owners lose legal dispute with RBS

A High Court judge has ruled against Liverpool Football Club’s current owners in a dispute with creditor Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which wants to sell the club to the owners of the Boston Red Sox.

This morning, Floyd J ruled that Tom Hicks and George Gillett cannot stop their boardroom rivals, who last Wednesday sanctioned the sale of the debt-ridden club to New England Sports Ventures for £300m.

Hicks and Gillett claim the price undervalues the club and wanted to change the club’s board so it can block the sale.

At RBS’s request, the judge imposed injunctions on the two men requiring them to restore the original constitutions of the companies and managing directors.

New England Sports Ventures are believed to want to look at expanding Liverpool’s current Anfield stadium to 60,000-seat capacity before deciding whether to fund a new development costing £400m.
