Liverpool Waters set for green light

Liverpool city council is recommending Peel Holdings’ £5.5bn Liverpool Waters scheme to receive planning permission next week.

The 150-acre regeneration proposal of the historic dockland in North Liverpool includes 18.2m sq ft of new buildings.

The plans include 9,000 homes, a cultural building, a new cruise liner terminal and the proposed Shanghai Tower which will be the tallest UK building outside of London.

Peel development investment surveyor Ian Pollitt said: “The Liverpool Waters proposals are unique and have the potential to change the future of the city.

“The development proposed is on an unprecedented scale almost beyond living experience which if delivered would transform the city’s waterfront, creating a new international business destination, expand the city’s economy and regenerate north Liverpool.”

It is expected that the council’s decision will be announced on Tuesday.

WYG is advising Peel on the planning application.
