Liverpool’s former TJ Hughes to be converted to resi

Vision International Group’s plans to convert a former TJ Hughes store into a 199-home build-to-rent development are set to be approved by Liverpool City Council planners next week.

Under the plans, the former department store on London Road would be converted into a residential block of one and two-bedroom homes plus a gym, cycle storage and self-storage for residents’ use, as well as amenities and open space.

The site is in the heart of the Liverpool Fabric District and currently comprises a three to five-storey building, which would be increased by one and two-storeys.

TJ Hughes has traded from the building since 1927. However, since this time the retail core of Liverpool has shifted further westwards and is now focussed on the waterfront and Liverpool One. The retailer has made the decision to move to new premises.
