Livingstone tells Darling to get a move on with Crossrail

London mayor Ken Livingstone has told Alistair Darling to “get off his arse” to make sure Crossrail is ready for the 2012 Olympics.

The transport secretary gave his support in principle for the £10bn scheme linking east and west London.

Livingstone was particularly annoyed that the hybrid bill for the new railway will not be ready to go before parliament until autumn 2004 and will take three years to go through.
