London Mayor Ken Livingstone is today expected to approve Arsenal FC’s £400m stadium scheme (pictured).
Livingstone has consistently supported the plans, which include 2,459 homes and more than 300,000 sq ft (27,900 sq m) of offices and retail, alongside a 60,000-seat stadium.
Arsenal Football Club, which has already spent around £10m developing its plans, won consent in December from Islington council for a £250m stadium with housing and offices at Ashburton Grove.
But the scheme could still be called in by Secretary of State Stephen Byers if objectors can prove that such a move would be in the public interest. However, the support of Islington council and Livingstone means this an unlikely outcome.
Arsenal will pay around £8m towards improving transport links, including the redevelopment of Holloway Road Station, while its existing stadium at Highbury will be redeveloped as luxury flats.
Anthony Green & Spencer is advising Arsenal.
