London mayor Ken Livingstone has said that Arsenal’s stadium scheme must not be delayed by the Secretary of State.
Livingstone has written to DTLR Secretary Stephen Byers, warning him that calling-in the £400m project “would be detrimental to the interests of London”.
The scheme has been referred to Byers by Islington council because it is a departure from the council’s Unitary Development Plan.
However, Livingstone has urged Byers to leave the scheme alone, saying that an inquiry would not “enable a more robust planning decision” but would cause “uncertainty and considerable delay in delivering the outcome”.
