Livingstone urges probe into Dame Shirley Porter situation

Ken Livingstone has called for an urgent investigation into whether Dame Shirley Porter should face perjury charges or to see if she has committed “any other relevant offence”.

The London mayor has written to Lord Goldsmith, attorney-general, asking him to look into the matter.

Dame Shirley, former leader of Westminster Council, was behind the home-for-votes scandal in the 1980s. She paid the council £12.3m in settlement of costs estimated at £22m two years ago after pleading dwindling financial circumstances.

She has returned from exile in Israel and bought a £1.5m flat in Mayfair.
