Lizards attack Musk’s gigafactory plan

Work at Tesla’s planned ‘gigafactory’ in the forests near Berlin could be delayed – by lizards.

No, this isn’t some conspiracy dreamt up by David Icke, but a very real environmental threat to Elon Musk’s plans to build the largest car factory in the Western Hemisphere.

It had been hoped that work would begin within weeks at the 300-ha site, which lies within a pine forest in Brandenburg.

But Musk has failed to make any provision for the site’s current residents – endangered smooth snakes, 15 kinds of bat, birds of prey and sand lizards.

Tesla has been warned that the sand lizards will have to be re-homed before works can commence, at a cost of up to €4,000 per lizard.
