LLDC approves Hackney Wick development

Hackney Wick Groveworld 570

Groveworld has secured permission from the London Legacy Development Corporation for its 120-home mixed-use development in Hackney Wick.

The Pollard Thomas Edwards-designed scheme will include 50,000 sq ft of commercial space, 60% of which will be affordable studio space managed by affordable workspace operator, Cell Studios.

Construction is expected to start in early 2016 on the one-acre site on Wallis Road, E9, between Hackney Wick station and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Richard Rothwell, development manager for Groveworld, said: “This decision is great news that will pave the way for high quality commercial and retail accommodation, including permanent studio space for cultural and creative industries in Hackney Wick as well as 120 private and affordable new homes.

The area has been earmarked by the LLDC for a new neighbourhood centre based around Hackney Wick station, and the development will deliver a new public route connecting it to Wallis Road and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
