The chairman of the London Legacy Development Corporation has resigned a day after London mayor Sadiq Khan ordered an investigation into spiraling costs for the Olympic stadium conversion.
From yesterday: Khan probes Olympic stadium refit
David Edmonds stepped down today following the announcement of the probe into the cost of converting the stadium into a football ground for West Ham United.
Former mayor Boris Johnson said in 2015 that the conversion from an Olympics arena to a football stadium would cost £272m, but that figure has now risen to £323m.
Edmonds had been chairman of the LLDC, which operates the Olympic Stadium, since September 2015.
David Goldstone, chief executive of the LLDC, said: “David has made an enormous contribution to the legacy of the London 2012 Games and he has helped to steer the organisation through some extremely challenging issues. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him well in the future.”
The investigation will look into a range of financial issues surrounding the conversion of the stadium for West Ham United, including the cost of moving the retractable seating.
