One of the City’s most iconic buildings was sealed off by protestors yesterday.
Lloyd’s of London’s distinctive Richard Rogers-designed stairways and parapets were occupied by more than 60 members of Extinction Rebellion, who arrived at the insurance marketplace at around 7am and used glue, chains and bike locks to obstruct all 25 entrances to the Grade I listed building.
Some were dressed as rats in suits while others dressed as cleaners, protesting against fossil fuels.
More prominent buildings are likely to be targeted after Extinction Rebellion pledged a week of protests and said there would be “significant disruption again” today.
On Friday protesters occupied Tower Bridge, causing it to close for several hours.
