Two local agents have stormed Estates Gazette’s Cambridge offices league table, pushing out national competition. Juniper Real Estate and Dodson Jones have grabbed third and fifth place in this year’s rankings, acting on the two most noteable deals in the city in the year to the end of June 2014.
Juniper Real Estate, set up in 2009 by Jamie Green and Mike Ayton grabbed a podium position from national agent Carter Jonas, signing tenants for more than 197,000 sq ft, including a 66,000 sq ft sale to Zurich Assurance on Cambridge Business Park with Bidwells.
Jamie Green, founder of Juniper, said the firm had concentrated on a book of higher-quality larger disposals. “In a year when take-up was above average, we found ourselves able to offer some of the best properties in the marketplace,” he said.
Fellow two-man-band Dodson Jones acted on a 60,000 sq ft prelet to BioFocus on Chesterford Research Park in September with Savills, boosting it to fifth position this year.
In first and second place there was little change, with Bidwells topping the league table for the fourth year running. The firm tripled the amount of space it found tenants for, boosted by Astra Zeneca’s 715,000 sq ft prelet. As joint agent on the deal, Savills secured second place, with a 626% rise in disposals. Even removing the Astra Zeneca deal, the two firms would have retained gold and silver positions.
Overall four out the top 10 agents saw disposals more than double as the city’s take-up moved over the 1.8m sq ft threshold, up from 662,000 sq ft the previous year. Fewer deals were signed overall but the average deal size quadrupled.
