Local councils in England and Wales are set to see £2.6 billion chopped from their funding in 2015-16.
According to government calculations, the average reduction across councils will be 1.8%. Kris Hopkins, the local government minister, said the maximum cut would be 6.4% and described the settlement as “fair for all parts of the country.”
However, local authorities put the average decrease at a much higher 8.8%, once ring-fencing is taken into account.
