Local boat builder Marine Projects is understood to have bought the 11.5ha (28.42 acre) former Royal Marines base at Coypool, Plymouth.
The company, which already employs some 1,000 people at various locations in the city, is thought to have offered over £3.5m for the site at Marsh Mills. Marine Projects plans to use the site as a manufacturing and storage depot in keeping with the development brief.
The base, which the RM used as a logistics depot, comprises 29,500 sq m (317,000 sq ft) of warehousing and industrial space.
MOD advisor Tim Western of King Sturge & Co said the sale had been agreed but he would not confirm the buyer. He added: “Interest in the property has been phenomenal over the marketing period, with numerous large UK property companies expressing a strong desire to aquire this large piece of real estate.”
