Furniture chain Lombok has closed half its shops as the big ticket sector continues to get squeezed.
The retailer has closed stores in: Guildford, Surrey; Wimbledon, SW19; Leamington Spa, Warwickshire; Hampstead, NW3; Brighton, and Kingston in Surrey.
It is thought the retailer is realigning its business to become a more focused on online sales.
It continues to trade from its stores in: Bluewater, Kent; Batley, Yorkshire; King’s Road, SW3; Chiswick, W4; Tottenham Court Road, WC2, and at House of Fraser, Oxford Street, W1. It will also keep its clearance store in Fulham, SW6.
Privet Capital bought 14 of Lombok’s 19 stores when it bought the retailer out of pre-pack administration in July 2009. Five stores were closed at the time of the purchase.
Lombok is the latest in a string of retailers, including Mothercare, HMV and Thorntons, to cull stores.
