London & Amsterdam, a joint venture between Dutch company ING Real Estate and UK-based London & Easter Properties, has unveiled plans for a £30m shopping centre development in central Truro, Cornwall.
The partners expect to win consent in the summer for the 18,580 sq m (200,000 sq ft) scheme on council-owned land at the end of Pydar Street. The complex, which will be built on two levels, will include a department store and 800 parking spaces.
Ian Pearce of London & Easter Properties said the development would be a success because little development has taken place in the area for some years. He added: “The town has a large catchment area and there is a shortage of decent-sized units.”
The joint venture is also behind Midsummer Place, a £100m shopping centre scheme in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, which is ING’s first retail venture in England.
Work on the Truro scheme is expected to start at the end of 1998.
