Vatican police have arrested an Italian businessman and frozen Swiss bank accounts over the purchase of a London property.
Gianluigi Torzi, a London-based financier, was arrested on Friday accused of extortion.
The Vatican thought it had completed the purchase of the 60 Sloane Avenue two years ago after handing over €350m, but was then forced to pay a further €15m for shares withheld by Torzi.
Torzi now faces 12 years in a Vatican jail if found guilty of fraud, embezzlement and extortion.
