London Cancer Hub lobs in padel plans

London-based padel operator Social Sports Society has lodged proposals with Sutton Council for a four-court facility at Aviva and Socius’ London Cancer Hub.

The courts could also be used as a social hub for other activities, including yoga, table tennis and running clubs.

The plans come as a result of feedback gathered as part of the wider £1.2bn London Cancer Hub’s development proposals

Daniel May, development director at Socius, added: “Having engaged with more than 4,500 people last year as part of our wider plans for the area, many people expressed a wish to have more opportunities to exercise at the London Cancer Hub.

“The padel courts will be a real asset for the community, which is why we’re encouraging the community to show their support for this new facility.”

Social Sports Society will transform a vacant space within the site, with hopes for the courts to become operational in summer this year. They are planned as a temporary feature at the London Cancer Hub for up to seven years.

Tom Rooney, chief executive at Social Sports Society, said: “By bringing people together through physical activity, we’re able to counter social isolation, create connections and improve health and happiness outcomes right in the heart of neighbourhoods.”
