London house price growth strengthens in July

The slowdown in house price growth in London may be reaching a bottom, with data from Hometrack showing prices there were 2.8% higher on the year in July, accelerating from a rise of 2.3% in the previous month.

That is nevertheless well below the 11.2% rise a year earlier. The increase across the country’s 20 largest cities slowed to 5.3% from 7.4% a year earlier.

Elsewhere, Bristol’s growth rate slowed to 3.7% from 14.3% a year earlier as affordability was stretched following a 60% increase since the financial crisis.
