London mayor aiming to ensure affordable home commitments met

London mayor Sadiq Khan is looking at measures to ensure developers meet affordable housing commitments agreed when planning permission is granted.

Among the measures, Khan will ask the government to grant powers to block attempts to reduce the number of affordable homes – developers are currently able to ask for a reduction due to changes in the profitability of a scheme.

Khan is also planning to confirm access for developers to a fast-track planning process if the proportion of affordable homes in a scheme exceeds 35%, or 50% in the case of public-sector owned land.
