A report published today by Ereco international consortium of economic research institutes says London will be the fastest growing British conurbation for the rest of the decade, consolidating its position as a European financial and business centre. European Regional Prospects says London will narrowly outperform Birmingham which is also well placed to benefit from national economic growth. Employment and investment in Manchester should get a short-term boost from projects such as the construction of the Trafford Regional Shopping Centre at Dumplington by Christmas 1998.
